I am just wondering what everyone in the area thinks about the new sidewalks going in!

I for one think it is a terrific idea. Ever try walking through Sheet Harbour on a day that is busy with large truck traffic. Damn scary! Or in wintertime when snow and ice clog the sides of the road. YAY for sidewalks, looking forward to having them completed!!

Well I'm a little behind in what's going on, so forgive me if I didn't know that sidewalks have starting to be laid. Good news Islandgirl. It will benefit the whole community. I know that there has been a lot of talk about the potential tourist, but somehow I feel that if we don't take care of our own needs first and have a stable community, then we are in a poor condition to think about any tourist. If we are not happy with our town, then those who come here will certainly experience our malcontent. I know there are many efforts that must be made from the cradle to the elderly's needs, and it will profit ourselves if we fix our town first eg. Would you invite a friend into your home for supper when there is no food?

They sure have and maybe this is just the beginning to try to revitalize the village. I am looking forward to the completion of the "Streetscape" Project, it for sure will be a welcome addition to the Harbour. NOW the Harbour needs to be cleaned up! Just how do we go about instigating a harbour cleanup so folks will not be permitted to have their toilets flush into the harbour? Any ideas or suggestions? I have a feeling that folks don't want to make their feelings public on this matter as it may create some animosity or perhaps they just don't care!

I really think folks care Islandgirl, it would be for us folks equal to cleaning up Hlaifax Harbour, and anyone watching the news or could see the filth will know the trials and tribulations and number of years it took, will know the cost and difficulties. I think that has to be put on the back burner for now. Lets take care of the immediate goals for now like: Home care, Nursing Home and the children and other such concerns first. If we take too big a bite of the apple, we my just choke ourselves. And lets also think of Recreation.

Do you really think that now is not a good time to get started? I know it will take years to clean up but really in order to push for what we want, why not get started now? It will be nothing like the Halifax Harbour cleanup. Think about it. I don't foresee sewer and water happening here so folks who now have their septic systems going into the harbour would be required to put in a system to handle their gray and black water waste.
You suggest we deal with immediate goals such as home care, the nursing home and our children. I realize the need for additional monies for the new nursing home but as far as home care goes, in your view what is lacking there? Perhaps I am not aware of an additional need here. Regarding our children, this issue has been here for as long as I can remember. There is nothing here for the kids to do. I will be one of the first to agree that something is needed and this has been a project that I worked on in the past. I would really love to hear your suggestions and ideas...it has to start somewhere. In my way of thinking, laying the groundwork to have the harbour cleaned up is something that can be started and as far as recreation goes, if the harbour is cleaned up perhaps folks will be able to swim in the harbour once again. A beach adjacent to the playground would be a terrific idea!
Looking forward to your comments!
